ESSE QUAM VIDERI

ESSE QUAM VIDERI
Salzburg, 2018

The information is transferring at ultra-high-speeds in the 21st century. At the same time, the amount of incoming data is inversely proportional to their volume. Large narratives, such as literature, give place to frequently updated news feeds. The amount of perceptible information is reduced to the title with illustration. The knowledge becomes superficial, because any gaps can be overcome very quickly by reading the first paragraph of the Wikipedia article. It is not a surprise that we know books’ names and their authors without reading them. We heard about many artists, but do not know their works.

This project is the intervention in the antiquarian bookshop “Neues Leben” (Bergstraße 16), where I left my unwritten books that consist only of the cover. During the presentation, the books were in the shop window, and after that, they became history and were lost among other books. Now any customer can find them and even buy any of my nonexistent books.
